Welcome to the 17th Barcelona International Women’s Film Festival (11th-21st June 2009). The quality and diversity of the films in this year’s programme demonstrate the great creative strength of cinema by women, in spite of the current global economic crisis.

In the Classics section, the latest work by three directors indispensible to the Festival: Ulrike Ottinger, Naomi Kawase and Agnès Varda (to whom we are dedicating a brief homage).

Self-portraits, statements and reflections of great visual quality in the selection of films in the Fiction Panorama and Documentary Panorama sections.

A programme of experimental cinema and parallel activities in the Marie Menken retrospective and the Ricci i Gianikian special.

A series of works on the problems of constructing identity in the section The sex of angels, and on radical pedagogic positions in the Subplots programme.

And also the usual sessions of Shorts in femenine and the The one minute video, directors and guest experts, discussions, a film master class and free opening and closing screenings in the open air!
