Reorganising cinephilia is an inter-university project that opens cracks in the academic curriculum in order to think together, teachers and students, about filmographies made by women and other dissident identities.
Films made by women, queer and racialised people – or the intersection between some of these identities – hardly get the attention they deserve in academic settings. The difficulty in finding rigorous sources on women’s filmographies, as well as the disaggregated nature of these sources, makes film and audiovisual curriculum an absent terrain for filmmakers who transcend the multiple canons of film history. Typically, the filmographies of these women, queer and racialised filmmakers are taught in separate modules or subjects. This prevents a structural study of their works.
Following a series of meetings with teaching staff and students from the film and audiovisual universities of Catalonia, we map the academic situation and propose actions that take knowledge out of the centres and establish a dialogue with other cultural spaces in the city.
