LATIN AMERICAN FILMMAKERS
In collaboration with Casa Amèrica Catalunya
When
Where
Since 2015, in collaboration with Casa Amèrica Catalunya, MIFDB has organised this programme dedicated to feminist filmmaking in Latin America. Over the years, the programme has presented works ranging from some of the most influential pioneers of Latin American cinema to contemporary filmmakers and emerging voices, with particular attention to documentary and non-fiction practices. This year’s edition brings together fiction, documentary and serial storytelling, focusing on contemporary Brazilian filmmaking through three films that challenge established forms and narratives. These films explore the experiences of teenagers and young people in Brazil within a policing and judicial system that treats them unjustly. These films are rooted in collective processes of creation and animated by critical yet life-affirming perspectives. Their directors worked hand in hand with the young people who would later appear in front of the camera, creating works shaped through collaboration rather than observation.
