Vol. II
September 15 — December 4, 2025
In Company of Strangers:
Collective Reviews of Past, Present and Future.
The different parts of the Vol. II of the 33rd edition of the MIFDB suggest new ways of looking at the past, present and future. We will start the autumn programme with the Archipelago creation call — a virtual geography (map?) of female and dissident film genealogies which continues to grow thanks to contributions from film enthusiasts, students, critics and cinema lovers.
Starting in October, the travelling program Known and Recognized will tour different towns and cities in our region with the latest works by Catalan women directors, thus decentralising film screenings. Also in October, as part of the Latin American Women Documentarians programme, we will pay tribute to the filmmaker Lourdes Portillo, a leading figure in the Chicano cultural and cinematic movement. In a different vein, the 11th edition of Feminist Film Manifestos will revisit the three cinematic adaptations of the classic queer and feminist novel Orlando, with the participation of their directors.
This autumn, the Mostra’s audiences will once again fill the rooms and the screens. Together, we will reflect on how to defend, in the midst of hostile times, those images that do not appeal to fear, but to desire; that make reeds grow in swamps and share sweets made from lemons. We will come together to imagine collective narratives born from mutual support and shared vision through cinema.
